In your quest to keep track of what you are eating, it is just not reasonable to track every single crumb that you put into your mouth. But, portion control is one of the best ways to cut back on calories and loose weight. We live in a world where the portion sizes just keep getting larger and larger. It can be really hard to
believe how "small" one serving actually is since most everything that we are served is actually two or three servings. It's not wonder more and more people are having problems maintaining their weight.
The best investment you will ever make on your weight loss journey is to purchase a simple and inexpensive gram scale as well as measuring cups for both dry ingredients and liquid. There are some high end food scales that you can buy that come with nutritional information already programmed into them but you really don't need them.
Now that you have your scales, do you really know you are eating? Have you ever taken the time to read the labels on the backs of the foods that you buy? I don't know about you, but some of them are so small I have to take a magnifying glass (or my reading glasses) just to see them.
Luckily for us, all foods are required to list ingredients under the "Nutrition Facts" section. The label should list what a serving is and how many servings are in a box. It can be an eye opener sometimes to see how many servings are the container. You also need to take a look at the calories saturated fat, sodium, total fat, fiber, and cholesterol amount "per serving."
But, just because you can read the label doesn't really mean that you can actually understand it. Anyone wanting to lose weight needs to know exactly what those numbers mean if they really want to lose weight.
