The problem that most people have with dieting is that they still feel hungry after eating... That's why fly by night diets generally don't work well in the long-term. Eat more food and weigh loss pounds. Impossible... right?... Maybe it's not. Foods that have a high water or fiber content add bulk to your meals,
so you'll feel satisfied for longer. Fruits and vegetables which are low in density (they have a low amount of calories in comparison to what they weigh) are going to be low in calories. Whereas calorific foods such as cheese, fatty meats and white bread are high in density which means you could pile on the pounds if you are eating too much of them.
So how do you make healthy meals more filling?
It can be really difficult dealing with hunger pangs all day! You need to make sure that you are eating healthy meals which are satisfying for you. Here's a few tips to make your meals more filling:
Add quality protein such as organic meats, poultry and fish, as well as sources of healthy fat such as avocado, olive oil, raw nuts, legumes and coconut oil.
Pile your plate high with loads of your favourite veggies. Try to have at least a 1/3 of your plate with veggies as they expand in your stomach and digest slowly, leaving you full for longer.
You should also replace some of the starches in your diet for protein. A big factor in controlling your appetite cravings is determined by how quickly the food you eat is turned into glucose and absorbed into your bloodstream, foods which convert quickly make you feel hungry again faster.
Many research studies have shown that people who eat more protein and healthy fats tend to be fuller longer than people who have a carbohydrate-based diet. This is because carbohydrates turn into glucose quicker than protein as they are much easier for the body to digest.
Check out some of the other examples on healthy filling foods:
Breakfast: scrambled eggs, oatmeal, fresh fruits (such as pears and grapes)
Snack: fresh fruits (such as apples), cucumber, raw nuts, ryvita, pop corn
Dinner: grilled fish, organic lean meats (grilled), vegetables, sweet potato, green salad, whole wheat pasta, soup
Why not skip the dieting altogether and eat healthily instead, that way you can still eat tasty foods WHILE you're losing weight... now that's what I call absolutely fabulous.
